How to create a DJ deck stand from reclaimed scaffolding boards

A very good friend of mine (also a DJ might I add) was chatting to me the the other day about his frustration about DJ-ing on his kitchen top when practicing at home. Naturally the conversation drifted on to up-cycling…so I decided to help him make a deck stand for his home.

He described exactly what he needed – an area for in vinyl and enough space to fit and set of decks and a mixer on top. After doing some online research we have made plan and a shopping list.

Difficulty: MEDIUM

BEFORE

AFTER

Tools required*: drill, saw, wood saw, leveling spirit, sander

Shopping list:

  • reclaimed scaffold boards
  • screws
  • wood stain
  • wood glue
  • paintbrush

Project cost: around £60

*excluding tools

To do list:

  • Measure to the size you require. I did 1000mm x 1200mm x 600mm
  • Glue the size and top boards together and leave to dry
  • Cut the middle scaffold boards to the required size
  • Screw all together for extra hold
  • Sand to smooth the surface
  • Stain the wood to achieve an old rustic look

Tip: Leave scaffold boards to set over night. Also, wood absorbs the stain more than you think.
